Perfect Pout 2step

Creating the perfect pout requires the proper care and prep for your lips. You can't achieve a perfect red or bold lip without hydrated and smooth lips. Yes, there is hope for even the driest lips, with a little care.  Here are two steps I find the most imperative for a seamless lip color application.

Exfoliating is the best first step to getting smooth lips.  Here are my top 3 exfoliating products that also hydrate.

Lush Sugar Lip Scrub- If you are not yet a "Lushee" this product may get you hooked. Lush strives in providing all natural ingredients for their handmade products- so natural it's safe enough to eat!  Made with fair trade sugar and jojoba oil, this scrub will not only exfoliate, but also leaves lips feeling hydrated. This product retails at reasonable price of $9.95. Beware you may tend to over exfoliate due to it's yummy taste!

Mary Kay Satin Lips Mask- This Mask is great if you have a little extra time. I recommend putting on the mask during your face prep and letting it sit on the lips while you work on the rest of the face. The mask exfoliates dead skin cells and soothes the lips using a leaf extract which also contains antioxidant properties. This product is fragrance free, making it great for those more sensitive. I recommend this product for extra dry skin and suggest you use the six hour lip balm with it. This product retails for $10 and also comes in a set with a 6 hour lip balm for $18.

E.L.F Lip Exfoliator- You can't beat the price and convenience of this lip exfoliator.  It comes in the form of a lipstick making for an easy application. I consider this a more gentle exfoliator that may be used on a daily basis. Ingredients include grape seed oil, avocado oil, and jojoba oil which all provide effective hydration.    Retails at $3

Creating a smooth canvas on your lips also requires using the right primer. Nothing worse then having the perfect shade and having it bleed outside your lip line. Here are my top 3 favorite lip primers to use.

Make Up For Ever  Lipline Perfector Pencil- This is a must to have in your kit. With it's colorless finish you can apply this all around the outside of the lips  to prevent feathering. This is a must for mature skin and for smoker lines. Applying this product first will also give a smooth barrier to apply lip liner and lipstick. I like that it is the same size as a lip liner which makes for an easy application on the outer lip. The Lipline Perfector also makes applying bright or bold shades seamless.  This product retails at $19

MAC Prep + Prime lip- I have been using this product since the beginning of my career. YES it works! the key to making sure it is effective is giving it time to set on the lips. You want to exfoliate and/or hydrate lips first, and then apply the primer to dry lips.  Apply all over the lip as you would a lipstick. I recommend applying this at the same time you prime the face and eyes to allow enough time for the product to set on the lips. Lip liner and lips will go one smooth and stay on for an extended amount of time. Perfect for bridal parties and long set days. This product retails at $16

Too Faced Lip Insurance- I have to admit I am addicted to all the Too Faced Insurance products. They all work so well.  I love the sponge applicator for the lips. It makes it easy to glide on the outside and inside of the lip. Another plus about this product is that it has a matte finish which prevents from changing the texture of your lipstick.  The last thing you want is your Matte lipstick to become a luster. The formula also makes your lipstick stay put for hours. This product retails at $19
